The 2016 Sunflower Visual Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9AM to 5PM in Lucas, Kansas. 

The Deadline for entry in Shutter Shots 2016 is Noon, Wednesday, April 27, 2016!!

This year the featured visual art at the 2016 Sunflower Visual Arts Festival will be Moving Images. The importance of Moving Images to the human psyche throughout history cannot be understated. Moving Images have been used to entertain, to inform and educate, and to influence how we choose to live our lives.

The Schedule for the Festival is as follows (subject to change):

9AM – Storytelling Workshop with Priscilla Howe, Eric Abraham Creative Arts Tent, Fork Art Park.

10AM – Shutter Shots 2016 Photo Exhibit and Contest opens, First Baptist Church, 111 North Main Street (at the intersection of First and Main Streets).

10:10AM – Opening of Kansas in the Movies and Television Traveling Exhibition and unveiling of the First Inductees into the Kansas Movie Hall of Fame & the Kansas Thespian Hall of Fame, Green Room area in back of Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street. Closed from 2PM to 4PM.

10:15AM – Storytelling for Kids with Priscilla Howe, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.

11AM to 1PMFine Tooners caricaturist Debra McQueen will be creating their artwork in the Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.

Noon – Lucas Rural Fire Department Benefit Barbecue, Eric Abraham Creative Arts Tent, Fork Art Park. Featuring Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, & Brats. All proceeds go to the Lucas Rural Volunteer Fire Department and the Sunflower Visual Arts Festival.

1PM – Drum Circle Workshop with John Makings, Fork Art Park.

2PM – Panel Discussion on the movie Paper Moon, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.

2PM to 4PMFine Tooners caricaturist Debra McQueen will be creating their artwork in the Eric Abraham Creative Arts Tent, Fork Art Park.

3PMScreening of the 1973 movie Paper Moon, starring Ryan and Tatum O’Neal, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.

5PM – or, if later than 5PM, 15 minutes after conclusion of movie Paper MoonClose of Shutter Shots 2016 and Presentation of Awards, Eric Abraham Creative Arts Tent, Fork Art Park. If Bad Weather At The Time the presentation will be held at the First Baptist Church, 111 North Main Street.
